PRAY!!! UKRAINE UPDATE: - As of today, 12 oblast administration buildings (state capitol buildings) and the kiev municipal administration (considered its own state, kind of like DC) are now under the control of the opposition. that is almost half the oblasts in ukraine! (there are 27 total.) another 8 oblasts are in the process of being taken over by opposition or have massive protest/blocking of the oblast administration buildings happening. even in the far east and south (president yanokovichs power base), there local football ultras (organized soccer fan clubs) have come out to protect the local demonstators. map here: bit.ly/1cfPXOJ - THE REGIME IS CRACKING! Yanukovich is beginning to realize he is losing and will have to make major concessions. as of today, he was offering much greater concessions to the opposition than previously, though still short of their demands. these offers included: the release of all political prisoners and amnesty for all protestors, the post of prime minister and another cabinet post to 2 opposition leaders and the dissolution of the current cabinet, reverting to the 2004 version of the constitution (an important demand from the opposition), and changes to the draconian laws (but still short of the opposition demand of total annulment). - in addition, the opposition demands early presidential elections this year (instead of the scheduled elections next year) as well as early parliament elections. they are still waiting to see if the president follows through on any of his promises. in the past, he has broken many of them. the next meeting of the parliament will be on tuesday and this will show if any concrete steps will be taken. - many countries are holding their own rallies in support of the ukrainian opposition around the world. - another protestor died of his wounds in a hospital today. - the protestors are storming another government building in central kiev right now.
