PRESS RELEASE!!! ************* APGA COMMENDS PRESIDENT JONATHAN FOR PROSCRIBING BOKO HARAM, ANSARU. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) commends President Goodluck Jonathan on his bold, decisive and courageous proscription of Boko Haram and its splinter group Ansaru and declaring their activities illegal and acts of terrorism. We affirm that the President’s action which is pursuant to Section 2 of the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011 (as amended) is not only timely and in tandem with efforts of the Federal Government to checkmate the horror and unmitigated calamities which these groups and their collaborators have unleashed on innocent Nigerians. The action of Mr. President has also vindicate our earlier position on this matter that no government anywhere in the world would fight terrorism with kid gloves and succeed; that governments all over the world given the international collaboration and dimension of terrorism should close ranks and share intelligence and strategy in the fight against this hydra headed monster that has afflicted the world. This summation informed our earlier commendation of Mr. President’s stand on the matter during his official state visit to Yobe and Borno States a few months ago when he affirmed that his government would not fold hands while its citizens, including security officials were being slaughtered with impunity. We agreed with Mr. President then as at now, aware that it is only such decisive action that can save us from this scourge. We also wish to thank the government of the United States of America for its intervention in the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the Maxi Okwu-led Executive of APGA is strongly committed to re-positioning the party and reconciling all aggrieved members. In view of this, a 14-man Truth, Justice and reconciliation Committee has been set up led by Chief Reagan Ofomba to hold hearing in Lagos, Abuja, Enugu and Awka with a view to reconciling all aggrieved members ahead of the forthcoming Local Government and Governorship Elections in Anambra State. APGA remains the third force in the nation’s political equation that will determine the outcome of the 2015 general election. With the recent judgment of the Anambra State high Court Awka confirming the validity of the April 8 2013 APGA National Convention, the party is once again on its unstoppable electoral march across the country as a key player in the nation’s political landscape. We urge Nigerians to sit up and actively participate in the electoral process as this is the only way we can build a strong, virile and just society. We enjoin politicians to imbibe issue-based politics and eschew politics of bitterness that has impeded our frail democracy. The long suffering masses deserve the dividends of democracy not carnage.
