PROLONGED NOREASTER TUES-THURS TIMEFRAME WITH PRECIP TYPE YET TO BE DETERMINED, AND A RAINY SATURDAY ENDING WITH SNOW/SLEET TONIGHT Good morning everybody, very busy over here in weather world, and lots to talk about, so lets jump in. Today will feature a stalled front that is draped over CT, RI and southeastern MA. Along this front, rain is being focused, and will fall intermittently throughout the day. Fog will be an issue this morning, but eventually the front sags south, and will allow the fog to dissipate over time. Rain showers will continue. There could be some icy spots still in the higher elevations, and Berkshire County still has a Winter Weather Advisory posted until 10am, and similar advisories exist in northern New England, where icing could be prolonged, and temps colder. We will rise into the low 40s (hopefully) today, so between temps and plenty of rain, any snow/sleet that fell last night should be washed away in many places. However, tonight, as the low departs and pulls down colder air, we could change back to snow/sleet for a time, making the roads slippery again. Tomorrow is a great day, cold, highs in the 30s, but mostly sunny. Monday should be similar, but will feature increasing clouds as the day wears on, then we turn to the middle of next week. A complex storm setup will begin to take shape, with low pressure developing off the Mid-Atlantic coast, colder high pressure to the northeast, and a blocking pattern to the north and east. This doesnt happen that often, and if such a setup combines with a storm track over Nantucket, and cold air to the north, we could see a major snowstorm in Western Mass, over 2-3 days. However, there are signs this storm could be hugging the Long Island coast, and allowing more warm air to invade our region, which would mean a snow to soaking rainstorm, and back to snow as the low slowly moves away to the east. The low could stall out, wobble, meander, and generally hang around for a few days. This is the opposite of a progressive system as youve heard me talk about in the past. A progressive system shows up, and keeps on trucking. This system is likely to not act in that way due to upstream blocking. So this situation warrants paying close attention as we get more near to the mid-week timeframe. Very complex forecast and weather system. There are also signs that the following week could see a pattern change to colder and snowier weather. Winter is arriving. Enjoy some hot beverage inside today.
