Pak shells forward Indian posts on LoC, India retaliates M S Nazki MENDHAR, Oct 5: For the 10th time in the last nearly a month, Pakistan early this morning resorted to shelling and heavy and small arms fire, targeting forward Indian posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sub-sector here. The enemy action remained focussed mainly in the areas surrounding Gunn Hill Post where an IED blast had yesterday claimed the life of an army jawan and left five others wounded. Official sources said in an apparent bid to push militants into the Indian territory, Pak troops resorted to heavy shelling and heavy arms fire at about 5 am, targeting Gunn Hill Post, Tibba Tilla, Roshni and seven other nearby posts, besides the villages close to them. Fire was effectively returned by the Indian army jawans who are already on high alert following inputs by intelligence agencies that Pak is likely to push militants into India under the cover of firing, the sources added. The exchange of shells and heavy arms fire between the two sides continued up to 7 am. From 7 am to 11.30 am, there was intermittent exchange of small arms fire between the two sides. There was no casualty on the Indian side. Casualty, if any, on the Pak side was not immediately known, sources said. Sources said troops had been put on high alert on the LoC to foil any Pak-supported infiltration bid from across the LoC. This was the 10th incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the past nearly a month. At least 200 trained militants were waiting at various launching pads across the LoC to enter Indian territory to indulge in militant acts, the sources added. Sources said another motive of the enemy troops was to plant IEDs in the areas close to LoC on this side of the border. One such IED had yesterday exploded near Gunn Hill Post, claiming the life of an army jawan and causing injuries to five others, the sources added.
