Panama Mission Day 2: Panama is a beautiful place. Its very tropical. They say that there are toucans that fly around here but we having seen any. Yesterday we got to see too large cargo ships navigating through the Panama Canal as they approached one of the three lock systems. We also found out that Panama has always been one of those places that gets a lot of attention from a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. Some times those reasons are good and some times those reasons arent so good. Costa Rica is to our north and Colombia is to our south. The border between Panama and Columbia is the only place from northern Canada to the tip of South American where the road stops. There is no way to drive directly from Panama to Columbia. There is wilderness frontier between the two. You have to get on a boat and go around this frontier in order to make the trip. It has got me thinking about what stands in the way of us getting to our intended destination. There is a whole other world south of Columbia that has been cut off from where we are at just like we have been cut off from Gods best for our lives. We settle for life on this side when God has more than that. Now, mind you, hanging out in Panama, on the doorstep of everything south isnt necessarily a bad thing. But if what we are supposed to have is all the rest, then settling for Panama is just that; settling. As we head out in a little bit to begin our work and ministry, it is our prayer that we will be conformed to the image of Christ in every way. But it will require that we recognize the wilderness between us and that image. We will then have to figure out how to recognize the trail that God has blazed through his Son on the Cross. We cant wait to encounter what God is going to do through us and we are praying for the same for each one of you. En el nombre de Jesus ... Amen!
