Parenting kids without spanking takes more patience, more education, more knowledge of psychology etc. People spank because they either dont know alternatives or because they arent interested in alternatives. Even if I do think spanking is WRONG and it UPSETS me...I guess its not fair to judge people without enough education, without enough ACCESS to education, without access to experts to work with them on alternatives etc. for spanking, especially when its a cultural norm. They arent bad people I guess...even though it can be hard for me to see that because I see the ACT as being so bad. It just comes down to lack of education, lack of help in finding alternatives and having this practice culturally ingrained into them. Those of you who spank your kids are WRONG. You arent necessarily bad people though. That being said...if you CAN educate yourself on this subject, if you CAN break the cycle yet you absolutely refuse to because you cant handle admitting youve been doing wrong, that your parents and their parents before them did wrong...that is disappointing. My opinion is that you are putting protecting your ego and your beliefs ahead of being the best person and parent you can possibly be. Your kids are human beings. They arent your property. They DESERVE to be treated in the way that does them the least harm. If you refuse to hear evidence contradictory to your beliefs on this subject, you are being selfish and displaying what is called cognitive dissonance. Saying, they are my kid and Ill treat them how I want and thats that isnt good enough. Theyre humans, not furniture.
