Parkersburg Police Department is currently investigating a stabbing case involving a 49 year old Parkersburg resident that occurred at his residence in the 1300 block of Oak Street. The incident started around 0500 hours on Tuesday, September 9. The male victim was approached by a male suspect who was inquiring about a handgun that the victim owns. The two continued to have a conversation for a brief time about a vehicle owned by the victim and the suspect left the area on foot. The suspect returned a short time later and asked the victim again to show him the handgun. The victim unloaded the handgun and the suspect then produced a knife and demanded the victim to give the handgun to him. The victim refused to give the suspect the gun and the suspect began to stab the victim multiple times. The victim received wounds to his arms, abdomen, and his head. The victim had to be transferred to a Morgantown hospital for specialized treatment. The victim received a significant injury to his eye that required surgery. The victim is currently recovering from the incident. Detective T.P. Wolfe was called out to continue this investigation. The scene has been processed and interviews have been completed. Based on the evidence, interviews and the identification of the suspect, warrants will be obtained for the arrest of the suspect. The suspect has been identified as Joshua Lee Smith, 25 years old from Parkersburg. Detective Wolfe has conferred with the Prosecutors Office and based on the seriousness of the offense, it has been determined to charge Smith with attempted murder and robbery in the first degree.
