(Part 5:#1) Our final lesson! Today we wrap things up: Ill give you some things to think about in general when purchasing essential oils, and ordering information if you are interested! Young Livings essential oils are the highest quality oils you can find because of the integrity of their practices which also align with things I believe in personally and alas, why I decided to join their team. If you follow my Greencquins Facebook page you know I am passionate about sharing things that are good for people, good for the earth, and promote healthy, natural living. This fits in perfectly with the message I was already so excited about sharing! No matter what you are buying, whether it be a car, a tv, food, or essential oil, you should always know what you are paying for, especially when it comes to products you are using for health benefits in your body. Things that factor into the cost of an essential oil: *Raw Plant Material: Essential Oil of lemon will be cheaper than Frankinscence essential oil partly because while lemon rinds are pretty readily available, Frankinsence resin costs about $35,000 per ton. If you are buying a bottle of Frankinsence oil at the grocery store for 15$, its impossible you are getting 100% pure therapeutic grade oil. It takes 22lbs of rose petals to get 5ml of rose essential oil, so thats going to be an expensive oil. Peppermint essential oil will be less expensive because it doesnt require as much raw material to distill it. *Quality of the Plant Material/Growing/Harvesting Methods: There is a big difference between a cucumber grown in your own backyard and one that was grown on a factory farm that uses pesticides and shipped across the country to get to you. The same logic applies to oils. Young Living owns the entire process of their oils: they own the seeds, the fields, the cultivation all the way though the distilling and sealing of the bottles. A company that outsources for its materials cant guarantee the same quality as of one that owns its own fields. They also practice organic, green, sustainable farming methods which are make for a superior oil but also a nicer planet. *Distillation Time and Method: Young Living use low-steam and low-pressure distillation processes to ensure maximum quality oils with maximum therapeutic benefits. Remember that cheaper and faster methods using solvents or high heat exist, but those produce oils with chemicals in the finished product, and destroy the beneficial compounds from the plant. Ive given you a few ideas on how use essential oils but there are literally hundreds more. In thinking about buying or using essential oils consider the products you will be replacing in your home (OTC medications/remedies, cleaning products, lotions, etc..) and the health-promoting qualities of essential oils!
