Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Sunday November 9, 2014 Hebrews 9:12–14, Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? A reality in Christianity is the presence of blood. It was first alluded to in Genesis 3 when sin entered in, and a covering was necessary. Fig leaves would not do as a covering for sin, so God made tunics of skin to cover them. This would be the first instance of death. As Moses read the words that God gave him for the people, he sprinkled blood on them all. When the sacrifices were made, it was a very bloody undertaking; the animals were killed, and their blood was drained. My wife has often wondered how the priests wives got the blood stains out of their garments. On the day of Jesus triumphal entry, it is estimated that there were some two hundred thousand lambs destined for the Passover sacrifice. Riding in the midst of that sea of white lambs without a blemish was the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. All of the previous sacrifices could only cover up sin, and the problem with covered sin is that it still exists. The blood of Christ is that which washes sin away as if it never existed. When we speak of the blood of Christ, the cleansing of the blood, or the shedding of His blood, what we are really talking about is His death. The bible says that the wages of sin is death, so we were all destined to die. But because of the gift of God, we received eternal life in Christ Jesus, because He died for us, in our stead. It was the spilling of His blood that satisfied the requirement of death for sin. The bible speaks of a man having blood on his hands, this means that he is responsible for the death of another. The bible also speaks of a persons blood being upon his own head, this is to be responsible for your own death. But for those whose sins are covered by the blood of the lamb, Jesus has taken our responsibility upon Himself. Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
