Pastors Moment: Shortly after Fourth Form, together with a group - TopicsExpress

Pastors Moment: Shortly after Fourth Form, together with a group of friends we started a theatre group in Embu. We could not afford or even imagine that we would ask or money to hire a hall o practice our plays. So we we would meet under a tree at a place in Embu called Spring Valley. When we began we were four if am my memory is right. We chose the name Esta-Baites for the group, it read in full, Enlightening Society Through Theatre. In our dreams we would use the platform of theatre to tell the story of HIV. Victor Gitonga wrote the scripts, Eric Njand I Co-directed ourselves while Zayn Nancy was responsible for costumes which was largely banana leaves and the three or four clothing we each owned. We met religiously under the tree and after persistently disturbing the District HIV/AIDS office we finally got sponsorship of Kenya Shillings 15,000. The assignment was to develop plays for markets across Embu. It was not about the money, it was the passion, energy and engagement. One day at Kithimu market, we put Vickie in a scary Mask and he chased the rest of us as we took off screaming for help -an effective teaser that we used to draw crowds to watch our skits And poetry. This time round the crowd believing the masked Vickie to be a real devil chased and surrounded us ready to kill Lucifer (Victor) and his demon angels (ourselves). Our attempt to explain fell on deaf ears as we received some kicking and harassment - two APs and a chief who were assign by saved us and we ended performing in a chief Baraka instead. Such were the times, Esta Baites grew to a full Theatre NGO, that we passed on to our younger siblings as we moved to Nairobi to chase different academic persuits. PR and Communication Director Esta Baites is one of my proudest entries on my CV every time I compile one. If You want to do something create the perfect settings, do not wait for the perfect circumstances to add up. Once your basket s woven go out and seek to fill it and do not allow anyone to stop you. While Paul wrote to the church in Rome in chapter 8:28, he acknowledged that principle, And we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. God Bless You and Keep You
