Pauline, I had a kidney transplant 20 yrs ago. Back in the day - TopicsExpress

Pauline, I had a kidney transplant 20 yrs ago. Back in the day when I was heavy into lifting weights I always had my protein shake or protein meal bars. My kidney doctor said it was ok to have protein products, no creatine due to it can affect my creactinal kidney level. My kidney doctor retired now I have a new dr. My last report states my protein level went up a bit, he ask if I was a meat eater. I said yes told him I am back into weight lifting at the gym taking in my protein shakes. He told me to cut down due to to much protein can affect the kidney. How much protein do u have to consume to affect the kidneys? Now mind u when I lifted back in the day my protein level was up but steady, I started to lift again take in my protein shakes level went up. I figure I have to consume a lot of protein in order to affect my kidneys, right?? Just looking for advise Answer: this is a case where you need to go by your doctors advice. High protein is safe for healthy individuals without preexisting kidney disease, but in your case you fall in that preexisting category. Check out this info: kidney.org/atoz/pdf/nutri_trans.pdf
