People very easily tend to forget that corporations have no allegiance to a specific group of people or to a specific geographical area. They are global entities whos only concern is the bottom line. They can be sued by their shareholders for having any sense of morality or social responsibility that does not coincide with profit. We are now governed/ruled by corporations. Our elections are bought. Facebook is really no different. They spend millions lobbying in washington, influencing online privacy legislation. If anyone here thinks that Facebook cares about what some drag queens have to say about Facebooks name change policy, they are sadly mistaken. A while ago I read an article that described Facebook as a walled-in garden. They do not want you you to leave, so they make it very appealing to stay. People are now addicted. Life now doesnt really happen unless its posted online and social networking sites know this very well. People forget that Facebook, Google etc.. are corporations. They are not warm/fuzzy/feel-good/town squares. They are powerful global players. So protest (over the name-change rule), leave, whatever… but if following a corporations rules//regulations/stipulations stirs up anger/protest, that anger/action is best directed at more important matters. Leave the walled-in garden for few hours and read a book if you really want to know whats going on.
