Perry senior Seth Stetzel (152 pounds) and W-G senior Colton Milosevich (120) both won their first round matches at the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines today and will wrestle in the quarterfinal round Friday. Perry sophomore Kade VanKirk (113) and Race Brant (145) both lost twice today and were eliminated. Stetzel (37-5) scored a 15-1 major decision over Algona senior Kory Kuecker (33-10). He faces third-ranked senior Griffin Osing of Albia (37-5) in the quarterfinals. Osing was fifth at 152 last year. The winner will face either No. 2 Brody Beck (GRN, Sr. 50-1) or No. 4 Danny Bush (Dav. Assumption, Sr. 40-3) in the semis while the loser draws seventh-rated Douglas Perrin of Osage (sr, 27-8) in the consolation quarterfinals. Milosevich (Sr., 42-3) pinned MFV frosh Connor Ascherl in 1:04 and faced No. 4 Dillon Cox (ATL, Sr., 8-1). The winner will battle either defending 113 champ and top-rated Fletcher Green (WASH, Sr., 43-0) or No. 2 Brendon Gould (Dav. Assumption, Sr. 35-5) who placed third last year at 113. The loser moves to the consolation quarterfinals against Mason Buster (MEDI, 38-12, So.). VanKirk (39-14) was bounced after suffering a 6-2 loss to Brady Kyner (CRL, 34-2, Fr.). He was then eliminated with a 6-4 loss to Carter Berkema (H-D, 34-11, So.). Brant (So., 37-11) suffered a technical fall (15-0, 5:25) defeat at the hands of Austin Long (ALG, Jr., 31-12) and was knocked out of the tourney after losing by fall to Jared Eischeid (KMPR, Sr. 31-5) in 2:41.
