Petelo, I’m not at all surprised with your response, as it always reflects your ignorance, narrow minded & uneducated views. Now 25% of remittances is a huge amount of money contributed by Samoans abroad, but I believe theresmore than that. Were talking about $100 millions of tala here. Assuming that this money is not included in Samoas budget or that Samoans abroad stop sending money, what do you think will happen to Samoas economy? Of course Samoa will go bankrupt! Samoas 3 main incomes right now are remittances, foreign aids & loans and loans, which the bank has now issued a warning for due to overspending. You forgot to mention the other main contribution of Samoans abroad and that is to the tourism sector. They are not tourists but visitors visiting families & spend $$thousands that stimulate the economy as well. Without them the planes, restaurants, hotels, taxies, and all other businesses in Samoa that rely on tourism will shut their doors. When was the last time you took a return trip to NZ? The last time I flew I counted 160 passengers who were Samoans with only 6 to 8 real tourists. The same on my return. That 6-8 is the average number of tourists on each flight in & out of Samoa. So if when you combine remittances & money from Samoan visitors, it will make up 40-60% of the GDP. I appreciate & value them for that. Perhaps you & your govt ought to do the same
