Peter Simonds, running for the senate, has sent me this to introduce him to our community: Statement about the Election by Peter Simonds, NSW Senate candidate for the Uniting Australia Party The two major parties have not offered any real policies to meet the challenges that face our country. Labor’s poor behaviour in NSW (eg Craig Thomson and Eddie Obeid) really disappoints me. I am also concerned the Liberals will cut back on health care and working conditions. As well, the actions of some Coalition MPs in criticising the Burka and the Hijab should not happen in our democracy. Only 6 of the minor parties (including my own party) put Pauline Hanson last in their preferences for the NSW Senate. All the other small parties are supporting Pauline Hanson – especially all those parties giving their preferences to her before the major parties. A vote for these parties may help elect Pauline Hanson. Her public statements about Islam show she would seek to divide Australians on the basis of religion. If I was elected to the Senate I would seek to promote honest and competent government and support our freedoms and values. Let’s keep Australia a peaceful and tolerant society. _______________________________________________________________________ Peter Simonds was a former adviser to Bob Hawke and was a campaign director in his electorate. He resigned from the Labor Party around ten years ago.
