Philippines Scott #1453-54 (14 Feb 1980) Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Knights of Columbus of the Philippines. On April 23, 1905, the first council of the Knights of Columbus was established in the Philippines. This was Council No. 1000 located within the Walled City of Intramuros (the oldest district and historic core of the City of Manila). At the time of its inauguration, they had thirty-one charter members. The Knights of Columbus is the worlds largest Catholic fraternal service organization. It was named in honor of the mariner Christopher Columbus. Presently, There are more than 1.8 million members. The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut. Motto: In service to one, in service to all.
