Plant the seeds of justice for Tu BiShvat what about making this part of the kitchens tu bshevat observance? in case any of u are not aware of the specific situation, the tent of nations has been run on the farm of a palestinian family for 3 generations. it has housed many groups, including the center for jewish non-violence, and has been dedicated to the study & practice of nonviolent conflict resolution. - elliot | | | | | | | A just future for Israelis and Palestinians Dear Elliot, Will you join me this Tu BiShvat in planting justice for Israelis and Palestinians? Your gift of $36 today plants the seeds of justice.  This February, I will join rabbinical students in Truahs year-long program in Israel to plant trees at a Palestinian farm where the Israeli government uprooted hundreds of fruit trees last year.  Usually, we ask you to plant two trees--one in a Palestinian community, and one in an Israeli community within the Green Line. But this year is the shmittah (sabbatical) year, when Jews traditionally refrain from planting in the Land of Israel on property owned by Jews. The Torah teaches, the human being is like a tree of the field. (Deuteronomy 20:19). Truah rabbinical students will further invest in the health of human beings by bringing fresh produce to a soup kitchen that serves low-income residents of a Jewish neighborhood of West Jerusalem. (Most rabbinic authorities agree that most laws of shmittah do not apply to land owned by non-Jews.)  Will you join us in these two mitzvot with your gift of $36 today? For every gift of $36, we will send a personalized certificate to you or your favorite justice seeker. Gifts may be in honor of a special occasion like a birthday, bar/bat mitzvah, new baby, or new life stage; or in memory of a planter of justice. This year, forty-five future rabbis and cantors studying in Israel are taking part in Truahs year-long immersion in human rights. On February 19th, these students will work alongside the Nasser family to plant trees at the Tent of Nations, a Palestinian family farm where the Israeli government bulldozed fruit trees last spring. We do this in partnership with The Center for Jewish Nonviolence, a sponsored project of Truah. Thank you for planting the seeds of justice for both Israelis and Palestinians.
