The River Murray Forest program aims to revegetate and reconnect the corridor habitat of the River Murray on private and public land, increasing biodiversity, restoring ecosystem health and establishing a means for carbon sequestration. Around 6,000 native trees and understory species were planted recently in 25ha at three locations in the Pike River area and Aboriginal Learning on Country staff will monitor the weather conditions over the rest of winter, coming spring and summer to decide whether the seedlings need extra watering. The low annual rainfall has made revegetation efforts challenging in the past, so a technique has been developed to improve rainfall capture and success rates.
