Please join us for our next Social Forum! Due to the Great Recession that was caused by mass mortgage and foreclosure fraud there has been a marked increase of homelessness in our community. Municipalities including Denver and Boulder have been proposing & enacting controversial legislation to address the issue. Many feel these legislative acts are necessary to safeguard or rebuild our city’s economic growth and that in turn will trickle down to all of us and decrease the number of homeless on the street. Many others feel that these move along laws have been resurrected from the days of the Great Depression and do far more harm than good to the homeless in our community. Have we, as a society, advanced beyond trying to make the most vulnerable of us feel so unwelcome in our community that they will simply go away? Or do we still need to hide the homeless to advance economic development? We will hold a powerful presentation on the correlation of legislative measures through the last century and their effect on our homeless population. We will learn about how Denver’s “Urban Camping Ban” was passed and how it is effecting the homeless it is reportedly intended to help. Organizers of recent actions in Boulder will let us know what Boulder faces and how they will be addressing the issue. Denver Homeless Out Loud will discuss their Homeless Bill of Rights Survey . Janet Matzen and other organizers of the Boycott the Tattered Cover, Boycott Tami Door, Boycott the Palm Restaurant, and Boycott Snooze AM Eatery will address the philosophy behind, and effectiveness of, their tactics. If you have found their tactics controversial please come voice your concerns or opinions in this open discussion. We have invited Denver and Boulder City Councils as well as the leadership of the Downtown Denver Partnership. https://facebook/events/680820575317019/
