Plot holes are nuisance, but they can be avoided. When you are revising, try to keep the story flowing. If you have more than a few interventions where there is no real action going on, you may easily bore your readers. Try to incorporate explanations into more spicy and intriguing circumstances, like when taking refuge from a bomb. The event doesnt even have to be vital to the plot, so long is it as followed by something that does contribute to said plot. Timing and pacing is everything. ~Dani
