Police Medic 1 Open Course! When a traditional casualty - TopicsExpress

Police Medic 1 Open Course! When a traditional casualty approach is used in a tactical environment, it endangers the casualty, the care provider, the other team members, and the mission. Appropriate casualty approach in a tactical environment differs greatly from that of a traditional EMS environment. Scene safety is a relative term, and traditional ABCs dont follow tactical environment casualty epidemiology. The Police Medic 1 course is the first level of law enforcement medicine. It teaches all levels of medics appropriate approaches, management techniques, advanced skills and strategies to manage casualties in complex, non-permissive environments. While many courses offered in tactical medicine focus on tactics and weapon handling, or try to squeeze 40 topics into 40 hours, our Police Medic 1 Course takes a unique and focused approach to casualty management with respect to the greater tactical situation. This course is beneficial to both the armed and unarmed tactical care provider. This is not a traditional Trauma Life Support course and does not teach routine EMS, protocol driven, pre-hospital medicine. However, the Police Medic 1 Course can be tailored to an agencys specific scope of practice and protocols. This course will be run over 4 days including lectures, skill stations, labs and scenarios in Edmonton, AB. The course scheduled for May 20-24, 2014. Call for more details or to register. Some of the procedures taught on this course require Medical Director oversight. Being taught a procedure does not constitute permission to perform that procedure or an increased scope of practice. *Subject to cancelation is student quota is not met.
