Police are appealing for public assistance after a teenage girl was assaulted and robbed in Sydney’s south. About 5.30pm today (Sunday 16 June 2013), a 15-year-old girl walked out of a shopping centre in a northerly direction on Kiora Road, Miranda. After walking about 400 metres, she approached the main intersection of Port Hacking Road, when a man grabbed her from behind and forced her to the ground. Police have been told the man began to choke the girl, however she bit him and was able to get free of his grasp. He ran away with the girl’s handbag, as well as a shopping bag. Police from Miranda Local Area Command were notified and arrived a short time later, commencing investigations into the incident. The girl sustained minor neck injuries but did not seek medical treatment. She has described the man as having tanned skin, large muscular hands and arms, and was wearing dark jeans, running shoes, and a dark blue long-sleeve hooded jumper.
