Police have charged a man after he allegedly forced entry into a unit at Fairfield East and poured diesel onto the staircase. Shorty before 4pm yesterday (Monday 19 May 2014), a 58-year-old man forced entry into the premises on Montrose Avenue, armed with diesel, an iron bar, a screwdriver, hammer and matches. He confronted the 44-year-old male occupant, before allegedly pouring the diesel onto the staircase. The occupant jumped out of a window on the second level. The older man allegedly ran after him and threatened him with an iron bar. Police from Fairfield Local Area Command attended and arrested the 58-year-old man and took him to Fairfield Police Station. He was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent to inflict assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Tuesday 20 May 2014). No-one was injured during the incident. Police will allege the two men reside in the same apartment complex.
