Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms are generally grouped into three types: intrusive memories, avoidance and numbing, and increased anxiety or emotional arousal (hyperarousal). I am learning to allow the memories, making them non-intrusive, which helps stop avoidance, which helps prevent numbing. The anxiety calls for soothing selfcare, whatever that means to you. This is an ongoing practice, probably life long, but I find it to be very healing. Ive spent most of my life avoiding, allowing and loving helps me be more present in life.
