The Chat is an ancient Vedica-Hindu festival dedicated to the sun god Surya and Chhathi Maiya (ancient Vedic goddess Usha).The faithful thank the sun god for the blessings and fulfillment of desires. Always the sun, since in most ancient cultures: Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Mayan, Incas, is a symbol of strength, power, prosperity, motive power, health and long life. The God Surya in India is thought to help in healing from leprosy and to keep alive as much as possible old and sick relatives and friends. Rituals are performed for 4 days and include bathrooms spiritual water, the fasting of food and water, stand in water for long periods of time, offer Prashad (offering prayer) and arghya at sunrise. The festival is observed mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Nepal Terai and it is also celebrated in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai, Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname and even Jamaica.
