Prepare your home for FREEZING temperatures! Tonight is expected - TopicsExpress

Prepare your home for FREEZING temperatures! Tonight is expected COLD and tomorrow will be even COLDER, which means time to WRAP those pipes! Follow these tips to help reduce costly damages! 1. Disconnect outdoor hoses, drain them, and store in a protected area. 2. Wrap all exposed faucets and pipes, including hose bibs and all other pipes outside the home or in unheated attic space, garages, etc. with pipe insulation. 3. Due to the complicated nature of turning off your Sprinkler System we have provided an instruction sheet for draining and turning off your PVB. *Note* When a valve is closed it runs across the pipe forming a T, when the valve is open it runs in-line with the pipe. 4. Take extra precaution and especially wrap and protect any outdoor plumbing appliances such as Tankless Water Heaters, Whole Home Water Filters and Softeners. These appliances all need to be insulated and protected during a Hard Freeze. 5. Run hot water in house until all pipes are warm (5-7 minutes). Repeat as necessary. 6. Leave cabinet doors open that contain pipes that are located on outside walls of the home. 7. Here is a list of plants that need extra care during a freeze.
