Presenting the latest addition to SMRT Buses: The Alexander Dennis Limited Enviro500 double-deck (DD) bus. A row of Enviro500 DDs, looking pretty in their SMRT colour scheme after a tropical downpour, glistens in the afternoon sun as our colleagues from SMRT Buses prepare these vehicles for revenue service. Chief Bus Captains Krishnan and Mohd Yusof (centre) and Senior Bus Captain Tan Yew Seng are part of the team at SMRT Buses who will eventually bring the Enviro500s closer to you. New DDs are arriving in-country and in strength. At Woodlands bus park last Thursday, a quick count showed 12 vehicles* on the premises. Some had already entered revenue service while others were undergoing final preparations before taking their first passengers. Will you step aboard as the very first passenger as our new buses make their maiden revenue run? This month, the number of DDs that will serve SMRT Buses will grow to 15 Enviro500s. More are on the way, and commuters who take SMRT Service 972 can look out for more DDs on this route. These buses form the vanguard of a larger force that will be imported as part of our transition from a legacy fleet of single-deck 12-metre buses and articulated buses (i.e. Bendy Buses) to a mixed fleet of single and double-deck buses. This will make SMRT the first public transport operator with such a mixed fleet of buses. Expect more SMRT bus services to phase in DDs as the fleet grows. This new transport capability is real, it is growing and will soon reach commuters as more DDs turn operational. What remains unchanged is our resolve to serve you even better as part of the transformation of SMRT.
