Problem is, no one figures out those of us who are high - TopicsExpress

Problem is, no one figures out those of us who are high functioning addicts until its too late. In HS I was addicted to meth & heroin. Physically, no one could tell. I gained weight. My skin was clear. Etc. Every one chalked up my issues to me being a bad kid and/or crazy. No one ever considered the fact I was self medicating, and purposely, and slowly killing myself. At 16-17 I was looking at 25 years in prison, and being deported from the country. By 17-18 I was clean. I now know how selfish I was... and every time I slip up and fall back into the routine of self medication I go through that self beating... but everyone who judges, doesnt take the time to listen, to try to understand, and possibly help, just exacerbates the problem and helps enable us make it perpetuating cycle... As a society as a whole, we are all to blame for those who fall into addiction - no matter how selfish the decision to become & remain an addict. Educate yourselves! Drop the judgments! Loose the stigma!
