Protostar: Eric Bledsoe Eric Bledsoe is a pointguard who plays for the Phoenix Suns. The 23-year old played for the Los Angeles Clippers for three years before getting his chance to start games regularly in Phoenix. Due to Chris Paul, Eric Bledsoe was the backup in Los Angeles, but now he is ready to lead his own team. Bledsoe has started the season strong, with 21.0 PPG, 7.2 APG, and 5.0 RPG. He made an immediate impact with a game-winning 3-pointer in just his second game with Phoenix. This guy isnt some surprise fluke. He filled in for Chris Paul when Paul was injured, and performed well. He took part in the Slam Dunk contest last year. The Clippers had a tough decision. They, and everyone else knew Bledsoe was going to be a good player, possibly all-star caliber. The Clippers already had an all-star pointguard on their team however. Chris Paul was in his last contract year, so they were hesitant to trade Bledsoe. If Paul decided to leave, surely Bledsoe would become their starter. Once Chris Paul re-signed with Los Angeles, trade rumors surfaced with the Clippers. The Boston Celtics were discussing trading Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett, but they wanted Eric Bledsoe. A trade was accepted, but it was vetoed because there were two deals contingent on each other. Instead, Doc Rivers was the only Celtic heading to LA to coach. Still, Los Angeles found Eric Bledsoe as expendable and the Suns acquired him and Caron Butler for Jared Dudley and a draft pick. This trade is great for Phoenix as they execute a rebuilding phase. They missed the playoffs last year. Eric Bledsoe will be a franchise player for the Suns when they can support him with better players. He plays like a shorter version of LeBron James, and he can do everything. His shooting is very good. He gets lots of assists, steals, and even rebounds. He is still averaging just 33.8 minutes per game. His turnovers could improve at 4.4 per game, but he has a long time to work on that. In the future, Bledsoe will be a top-five pointguard, maybe the best. He may win more than one championship. Phoenix would be wise to keep him, and he would be wise to stay there.
