“Fun in the Jungle” bulletin no.5 LAST BULLETIN of the 13th Caribbean Cuboree. Greetings from our sunny and beautiful jungle located in Suriname. We hope to see you soon then we can welcome you with open arms. It is a fact that we are one week away from the kick off of our great international event of cub-scouts. Our final goal is to present the cubs an event full of fun, friendship and positive learning experiences. In this bulletin we will focus on the last minute information. Venue The location of the campsite (Zanderij) is being finalized. Dates The official opening will be at the 21st of July 2013 and the closing ceremony on the 28th of July 2013. Registration forms We recall to all contingents that the list of participant should be submitted as soon as possible to our administration, for this data is needed to process the I.D-card for each participant. Gillwell Reunion Tradition during the Cuboree is the “Gillwell Reunion”. Each contingent should send a list of participants for this reunion, as well as the names of the leaders who became a gillwellian. The fee will be US $ 25,--. Don’t forget to bring your gillwell scarf with you. Cultural Festival For the cultural festival we request that each contingent has a national outfit to wear during the festival. In order to make your tent as attractive as possible, we suggest that you bring decoration and material for the tourists. Furthermore should each contingent bring enough supply to prepare your national snacks and/or meals so that participants can try some of it. If you need anything such as cooking arrangements, pots, pans etc. we are able to provide these only if you notify us not later than 20th of July. Please do send your requests as quick as you can. Each country will have to present a song, dance or whatever for 20 – 25 minutes. National Flags We request each contingent to bring along 2 pieces of their national flag. The campsite flag will also be used during the parade. It is also very important to bring a flagpole and carrying belt. Meals The government of Suriname will offer meals to all participants daily. This means that you don’t have to worry about meals and don’t have to cook either. We serve meals starting from the 20th July till 29th of July; the last meal will be lunch on Monday 29th July 2013. Besides the days mentioned breakfast, lunch and dinner are the responsibility of your contingent. Cuboree Song Be prepared to sing our cuboree song at different times, especially at the opening and closing ceremony. The song is available on hard copy and also on c.d. All contingents are urged to learn the song. Swapping of scout things We request all leaders to encourage their cubs to bring along scout badges and other items for swapping. Remember: leaders exchange with leaders and cubs with cubs. Mowgli and Shanti It is very important that each cub has read and understood the story of Mowgli and Shanti. This story will be the backbone of the 13th Caribbean Cuboree “Fun in the Jungle” Cuboree badge Flight itinerary For organizational purposes and transportation of participants and luggage please submit the following information: - Day and time of arrival - The Airline you are travelling with - Day and time of departure. Program completion The committee worked hard and with a lot of dedication on the program. All adventures will take place in the Surinamese jungle, the country where joyful, peaceful, friendly and loveable cubs live. There will be three kinds of activities during the camp: 1. Collective activities 2. Sub-camp activities 3. Get together activities. Campsites Our campsite will be at Ajoko-“Zanderij”, not far from the airport. We will make use of buildings which means that there is no need to bring tents. Just bring a pillow and sheets and a piece of plastic to cover the new mattresses. The names of the sub-camps are: 1. Hoatzin 2. Kule kule 3. Koprofowru 4. Continga Cayana. Scout Shop A scout shop is part of the campsite and will be open on special times. Official items (T-shirts, badges, souvenirs) will be on sale in this shop. Shopping There will also be a small shop on the campsite where you can buy snacks, popcorn and sweets. For souvenirs participants should be down town; so it is wise to have some money to be able to buy whatever one likes. Communication Our telecommunication provider Telesur is doing all they can to make mutual communication before and during the Cuboree possible. Communication through internet and by telephone will be on hand. Digicel and Unica telephone cards will also be available. Our goal is that all parents and leaders are well-informed during the stay of the participants in Suriname. A room will be specially fixed up for internet use.
