Puck, the hiking chihuahua, and I walked to one of my favorite local destinations this evening. Black Pond is actually giant beaver pond about a third of a mile in diameter in a beautiful upland setting, about a 45 minute hike from where I park. When we got to the one shore access spot, I was greeted by a beaver who was a couple of feet away at the shoreline. It swam out several feet and the back in forth in front of me (while I talked to it), then came up and parked itself facing me about six feet away and hung out for a couple minutes. Then it went back to swimming back and forth, raising its head up to check us out. After a while, it disappeared behind some bushes and under the water. It was an amazing meeting. I love the woods trails I get to use so close to home. Thanks, Beev!
