Q: Phil, how can me and my wife be a donor and benefactor in the Black community? We live in Bowie, MD but we would love to give back to Black arts and culture across the country, not just nearby Washington, DC? Can your group accept our endowment monies and ensure the funds are put to good use? Mr. and Mrs. Y.R., Prince George County, MD A: Sir, that is very kind of you, but this Group cannot accept nor solicit monies unless we have an established escrow account. Have you considered donating directly to an African-American museum or to your alma mater? The DuSable Museum in Chicago, the Charles Wright in Detroit, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, the National Freedom Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati and the August Wiison Museum in Pittsburgh, and so many others --- all could use your generous endowment, and may name a wing of the museum, after you and your wife, depending upon the amount donated. Lastly, you may want to consider consulting your family attorney before giving money away as an endowment. Thank you and God bless --- BHFG Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture nypl.org/locations/schomburg
