QUESTION FROM A READER: Fellow teachers I need help. I teach 2 1/2 year olds at my school and I recently had a little girl start my classroom from China. I have heard her talk to mom and dad in English but she has been there for a month and has not said more than maybe 3 words to me. She refuses to eat at school or drink water (very tight lips and turning her head when I try to feed her) so she is only at half day right now. She will eat when mom and dad come and feed her. Mom and Dad need to go work full time soon so they want to try her full time. The last two attempts, she didnt want to lay down at all on her cot and just cries for mom and dad. Any suggestions? She is telling mom what things we do at school and sings the songs we sing at home but will not do the activities at school. She tends to follow me around or a friend around (unless Ring Around the Rosie is on, she participates in that herself). Any advice?
