Quality Inn closing immediately, 30 people losing jobs The manager and about 30 employees of the Richmond Quality Inn learned from the owner Monday morning that the hotel is closing immediately. Hotel manager Dennis Smith, who has worked at the hotel for seven years, said owner Daniel Yoon, called him Monday morning with the news. Smith told about 30 housekeeping, front desk, food service and maintenance employees that they would be losing their jobs. It is sad, Smith said. I have no idea what will happen. Smith said he knew that it was just a matter of time before the hotel would close, especially since Yoon — part of the JC Hotel Group that owns the business — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization April 30 in the Indiana Southern Bankruptcy Court. Chapter 11 allows the limited liability corporation to continue operation as it restructures its finances. Despite the economic downturn and financial woes, the hotel at 5501 National Road E. had been averaging 80 to 90 reservations per night, Smith said. The hotel has 135 rooms. After learning about the closure, employees began shifting reservations for the Quality Inn to other area hotels. Smith said there was at least one wedding-reception affected by the closure. He said he hated to spoil the bride and grooms plans. The hotel has been a fixture on Richmonds far east side since opening in 1973 as a Ramada Inn. In 1977, Ramada sold it to Lees Inn. It went on to be a Susse Chalet and Quality Inn, before becoming the Holiday Inn/Holidome in 1994. In 2010, the hotel again joined the Quality Inn franchise. pal-item/story/money/2014/12/29/quality-inn-closing-immediately/21004383/
