Question: What can I be thankful for this Thanksgiving season? If we have trusted Christ and know God, we have a lot to thank Him for! Our salvation takes us from a long way down to bring us to a right relationship with God. In fact, without God’s help, we wouldn’t understand spiritual truth. Luke 10:21 states that “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.” The study of God’s Word alone without the proper relationship with the Author will be unprofitable. We can only see spiritual truth with God’s help! And not only does God allow us to see spiritual truth, but He also allows others to see spiritual truth through us! 2 Cor 2:14 states: “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place.” Not only can we be thankful for what God does for us, but we can and should be thankful to God for who He is. All He is joins together to make Him the magnificent God He is, and should cause us to break out in constant praise! Scripture is filled with statements and songs of thanks and praise for God’s wisdom, power, and purity. In fact, His name itself should be praised as the sum of all He is! We can be thankful for what God does and who He is, and yet there is one other great reason to praise and thank God. God gives us others who can be an encouragement and joy to our lives. God’s people should be another reason we give thanks. Do you thank God for all who care about you? We have more things to thank God for than we know. And yet, God really wants us to thank Him. It’s a good healthy exercise for us. In addition, the action and attitude of thanksgiving is needed and is missed when not practiced. Ungratefulness is a sin and hurts our walk with God. How is your Thanksgiving season going to be this year? Is it going to be a time of true thanksgiving? Will you be thankful to your Creator? Have you been saved from sin? If not, you can be and look forward to a great time of thanksgiving. If you are saved, make Thanksgiving a time of great praise to God. In fact, you can keep it going all year long!
