Question of the day. ... IS AMERICAS NUMBER ONE HATE CRIME. Black on black violence? Why is it that when an white man kills a black man its usually called a hate crime. Committees, rallies, marching, protesting praying etc usually follows. When the crime is black on black theres usually not many protest, rallies or marches. The irony in this situation is we can never really be sure that the crime committed by the white person was racially motivated. Not unless he admits to it openly. We dont know for sure if the white man had race on his mind when he committed the act, or whether it was just another random act of senseless violence with no racial connotations to it at all. We do know there are instances when the brother did. Is it not just as much a hate crime when the last word the black perpetrator says to his black victim before he pulls the trigger, is I told you not to mess with me Nigga!! I think if we really want to be effective at turning back the tide of growing violence in our communities we need to start being real with ourselves. I think much of the growing violence that we see in the street stems from a culture self hate, self loathing and a systematic desensitizing to violence that is being perpetrated through the media for profit and entertainment. Shouldnt we stop promoting and financially supporting negative violent imagery of young African Americans in the media. Shouldnt we try to instill a sense of pride, knowledge of history and a return to respecting elders and authority and self. If any of this is true bringing about change wont happen overnight. If any of it is true....... well is it. Gary Scott
