REMINDER: “COMPOSING NOW” CANZ Composers Conference 12-13 April 2014 School of Music, the University of Auckland This conference, an initiative of the Composers Association of New Zealand (CANZ) with the support of the University of Auckland, is intended to foster discussion and research with relevance to composers working in New Zealand today. CANZ and the University of Auckland are pleased to be able to support the attendance of postgraduate students at the conference with funds available for airfares for two students from outside of the Auckland area. Please indicate when submitting your abstract if you wish to be considered for this support. The conveners of the conference are Leonie Holmes and Samuel Holloway. They can be contacted at . CALL FOR PAPERS/PRESENTATIONS Areas of interest for presentations/papers include: - Composer presentations on working methodologies/strategies/concepts - Analyses of recent NZ composition - Theoretical concepts appropriate to recent NZ composition - Sociocultural or historical contextualisation of recent NZ composition - Political discussions relevant to NZ composition - Composing for film and television - Music for young people/amateurs/community performers Papers on topics outside these areas, but falling within the scope of the general theme of ‘current compositional practice’, are also invited to be submitted. Please email with the following by Friday 29 November 2013: - Name and contact details - Institutional affiliation (if applicable) - Title of paper/presentation - Abstract (150-250 words) - Any technical requirements All abstracts will be peer reviewed by two members of an assessment panel chaired by Dr Glenda Keam. Submitters will be advised whether their abstract has been accepted by Friday 13 December. Note that both formal and informal presentation styles are welcome. We strongly encourage student members to make submissions. Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes, with a further 10 minutes discussion.
