REPUBLICAN AMERICA: FLORIDA & TEXAS According to my Republican friends in Florida and Texas, this young man had every right to purchase that gun. He had no criminal background or any history of mental illness. Also according to them, this sort of thing could never happen to them or their family. Id laugh at them if their naivete wasnt so horrifically sad ... and dangerous. Theyll never admit that because of their political stands on this issue, theyre going to have to live in constant fear that this wont happen to them. Theyre going to have to turn their homes into unfriendly fortresses of barbed wire and hostile GO AWAY signs. Theyll have to barricade themselves from the outside world and never open their their door, without being armed to the hilt and on edge. Whats ironic is that these are the same people who blame Democrats for destroying America -- which I guess is true if by destroying America you mean advancing a government that was more focused on feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, healing the sick, and standing up for the marginalized and the oppressed (the stuff Jesus talked about) than on building armies to slaughter villages across the globe and pushing young men like this one to purchase guns to make themselves feel more powerful and respected. Its time to choose, people. Which America do you want to live in?
