REQUIEM FOR THE GHOST TRAIN Heres a link to a cab ride in a locomotive on the very last run of the Monticello Railway Museums Ghost Train, which ended its long-and-often-copied run after nearly 40 years. Enjoy the video, Requiem for the Ghost Train, with great thanks to Donna McClure, who as chair of the event has improved it from scaring people by reaching through holes in the wall to a popular family event that could return someday bif folks are found to do the spook work. The locomotive is Wabash 1189, the last of its kind built in Canada and used at various locations on the Wabash before they were merged with the Nickel Plate Road into the Norfolk and Western. It stood in a scrap line in Decatur IL when Don Heimburger and I found it and (after a campaign that lasted a couple of years) the railroaded donated it to the museum, but not in running condition. An historic restoration ensured. The CN steam generator car was also in the train to provide electric lights; several coaches including the combine, Rock Island coach, IC coach or two and a caboose. As usual, hot cider, sandwiches, pop corn and snacks were available at a large tent which can be seen briefly when stopped to pick up four passengers who drove into the lot after the train left. youtube/watch?v=wDdaOeYJogg&feature=em-upload_owner
