RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY BETWEEN 10/28 AT 11:00 P.M. AND 10/29/13 AT 6:40 A.M. Patrol Officers Ross Cooper and William Stone responded to an abandoned River Drive residence in Lake Hiawatha where they were met by the complainant who advised them that she observed the rear door to the residence open. The complainant is aware of the abandoned house, which usually has a closed rear door. She also stated that a refrigerator which can usually be seen through the windows was no longer there. Officers Cooper and Stone observed forced entry to the rear door and discovered missing copper from the dangling electrical wires inside the gutted home. The shed in the backyard also appeared to be opened and disturbed. The burglary was turned over to the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Division for continued investigation. Officers Cooper and Stone reported that through speaking with the surrounding residents, it appears that a suspicious white van occupied by at least two unidentified males has been seen several times in the area. The residence, which was purchased by the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills after being damaged in Super Storm Sandy, was secured by Parsippany’s Car 69 Rescue and Recovery Unit. The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident or may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area should contact the Parsippany Police Investigative Division’s Detective Morelli at 973-263-4311 or email us at Crime_Tips@parpolice. A charge is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
