RETRACING Its that time of year again, when we think back to - TopicsExpress

RETRACING Its that time of year again, when we think back to what the year has been like..as well as formulating our plan for the next year. There are quite a lot of messages encouraging us to let go of the past, not to dwell in it..which is all good. Im a firm believer that whatever we were or were not. whatever we accomplished or didnt in the past does not define who we are. I believe though that the successes and failures of yester years can be a guiding map to help us move forward..using the lessons we have learnt as our stepping stones to reach higher heights. This past one week Ive been stuck into some serious paperwork. To be honest, it is one of my least favourite things to do, but what needs doing has to be done. Yet as I go through it all its taking me back to great moments...and not so great moments.Memories are evoked of laughter, and sorrow too..of victories, defeat, love, heartbreak. There has been good times, and there has been bad times. Looking back, I appreciate my present so much better, and helps me to see the future in a whole new way. Im encouraged to pursue my dreams all the more, for in stepping out to do so in the past there has been results...not always good ones. But the risk is all worth it. Im taken back to when running my own restaurant was only a dream, one that was severely tested and 4 years down the line is still running! Memories of the first year when we only had one booking a night, or none at all come flooding in. I remember Michelle, who shared some of those months with us, and Carl, who brightened even the coldest nights with his stories when he came to pick his takeaway. Mr Knight and his gang, John who lived next door and his friends who always passed by for a spicy hot curry and chapatis, Tim, Dave and Pete, who made our lunch time worth opening....Then there is the window cleaner, whose handwritten note in the photo above literally takes me back to those early years (some might recall a post I made regarding this). He did turn up again this year, all eager to turn a new leaf....a story for another day! I would literally fill a book recounting just that one monumental year. And there is the behind the scenes issue of it all..piles of bills to sort, children to mind, HMRC deadlines...how we have come this far is truly and most assuredly by the grace of God! With business loans and grants out of out of our reach, its been like running on fumes. And the journey continues, yet the future never seemed brighter than it does now! We have thrived, and continue to thrive, on the goodwill of regular guests and freinds, who in turn motivate us to keep giving the best that we can. We serve with all of our hearts, and in turn are warmed by the response we get...we are blessed indeed! So I dive back in to the paperwork, hoping to surprise the HMRC with an on time records delivery, while I enjoy the trip down this memory lane. As I retrace my steps, I pray that the lessons Im learning here inspire me, and motivate me all the more..even as I make the necessary changes to be the best that I can be. Have a lovely end of year you all! As you retrace into the past couple of months and beyond may you gain the momentum you need to get to the next level in your lives. A merry Christmas and a happy, inspired new year!
