RPHS Kingsmen Thunder DRUM LINE WORKSHOP When: Saturday: May 3rd, 2014 10am-12:30pm Contact: René Ormae-Jarmer, Director (503-704-1934) rene@herecomeseverybody Cost: $25 (made payable to Rex Putnam Music Boosters) Who: Open to ANY Middle or High School drummers in (Note: Bring own marching snare drum if you have it available so we have enough drums). Location: Rex Putnam High School, 4950 SE Roethe Rd. Milwaukie, OR 97267, (Band Room) Summary An orientation for incoming percussionists and musicians interested in learning about the modern drum line. Orientation focuses on marching percussion. Learn the basics about individual and ensemble marching percussion techniques. Goals are to introduce rudimentsl and typical exercises for young percussionists. This session will give the percussionist valuable exposure to standard marching drumline techniques. Highly encouraged for any percussionist that will march in a parade or perform in their own school’s drum line, Every drummer can benefit from this workshop to strengthen jazz, rock, drum set, and other orchestral drumming. You do NOT have to be a percussionist to come to this workshop. Beginners welcome, but there’ll be plenty of challenge for more intermediate players. What To Bring Drum sticks (MS2 Corpsmaster), and willingness to learn and have fun! Earplugs & snacks provided! Door Prizes! ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: René Ormae-Jarmer: KINGSMEN THUNDER DRUM LINE DIRECTOR, René is an established drum instructor with more than 20 years of teaching experience, 25+ years of pro recording and live performance history. She conducts clinics in many Portland & Clackamas Schools and holds a BA in music (percussion) from Lewis & Clark College. René is a member of the local piano-rock group “Here Comes Everybody” has performed extenstively on TV, radio, colleges, clubs, festivals, and has toured the West Coast sharing the stage with national acts and many Northwest up and coming artists. René is a member of the Immersion Composition Society, “The Veronica Lodge”, which is a songwriting super-group that writes, records, and presents 6 songs within a 24-hour period every month (member since 2004). She is a Vic Firth Educator and PAS (Percussive Arts Society) member and writes for Tom Tom Magazine (a mag for female drummers). Additional Staff: Eric Yahrmarkt: Eric has been involved with percussion groups in the Northwest for the last 17 years. He holds a Bachelors degree in music from Washington State University, where he studied under professor David Jarvis. From 2000 to 2002 Eric marched with the Seattle Cascades, where the corps captured a Div III championship (2000), Div II high percussion (2001), and a top 12 finals performance (2002). He has worked on staff for the Cascades, Oregon Crusaders and was a founding staff member of OC Indoor. Currently, Eric lives in Portland Oregon and is the Percussion Coordinator for Liberty and Canby High Schools. Eric also teaches and consults for several other local high school percussion programs, has an extensive private lesson studio, and enjoys playing locally as a drum set artist.
