RUSD Board to remove mural from the theater - seriously no joke Save our mural!!! Hi Everyone, Last night at the board meeting Tom Hunt and Kathy Allavie put forth a contingency on the theater renovation that the Ramona mural be removed. Brett Lee was able to delay action on this part of the renovation. However there is a STRONG sense that Hunt and Allavie will get their way and replace the mural with the Ramona, by Helen Hunt book cover image. The board sees our theater now as a district theater and therefore should not be attached to the school. This is an outrage to me and several others. I am forming a committee to discuss what course of action we as a staff and campus can take to stop this from actually happening. If you are interested in joining us, come to a meeting at lunch tomorrow in Stoeckleins room 32. If you are interested in being a part but cant make lunch then email me. Ideas so far: Email and/or call Hunt & Allavie to voice our opposition to the removal; call/email Brent Lee thanking him for his support of the mural and encouraging his continued support A small group meet with Brent Lee to discuss the situation Get students involved - emailing board members, making a video Attend board meetings and make public comment regarding the importance of the mural to our school culture Protest out in front of the board meeting when the motion is an action item Contact alumni to get their support Contact all those who donated to the renovation of the mural just a couple of years ago Contact the Major to gain his support along with the City council especially the member from our area. Biggest thing is we need to get our voices heard! North and King have their logo in the middle of their football field - why because they have extremely vocal parents/teachers/students.
