Rachmaninoff returns to his beloved Russia . . . in this case, via a thrilling, live performance of the composers Symphony No. 3 in A Minor (1936). This sadly neglected work is one of my favorites and one I wish were performed more frequently. The audio and video of this YouTube upload are entirely four-square and unexceptional . . . and yet . . . they provide the impression that one is actually in the hall experiencing this beautifully sweeping score as it is played.
