Re: Dave Matthews -- Its like if a muppet wrote music. Not Jim Henson or the human beings that control the Muppets, but if an actual muppet wrote music. Like if Fozzy Bear sat down and penned an album. Dave even sounds like Kermit. Kermit one second, Animal the next. He cant sit still. No one in this band can sit still, but not in the punk rock way - in an annoying ADHD way. This band is like a really smart, self-satisfied, hyperactive asshole kid who needs a time-out. Also, the lyrics are pure garbaggio, if you can understand them. Theyre super high in the mix but such little attention is paid to creating compelling melodies or phrasing that at times it doesnt even sound like hes speaking English. And then the saxophone comes in. If youve ever wanted to hear what rejected themes to your favorite 90s TV shows (Full House, Perfect Strangers, etc.) might sound like, then look no further. Also, and this isnt even funny, but the mix is dogshit. Every single instrument is clear. There is 0 mystery and it robs the songs of what little tension existed in the first place. Im sorry if you grew up with these tunes. Truly, Im sorry. Also the drums make me wanna puke.
