Reading 16: The Book of Amos This is what the LORD says: “As a shepherd rescues from the lion’s mouth only two leg bones or a piece of an ear, so will the Israelites living in Samaria be rescued, with only the head of a bed and a piece of fabric from a couch.” Context & Questions: Amos loves to compare key points in his message to vivid images from everyday reality. These word pictures are an important element of how prophets communicate. Here the comparison to the constant danger that shepherds faced from wild beasts. So it will be with God’s disobedient people: only scattered pieces of their broken possessions will be found. It is too late for their rescue: God’s justice is coming! Next up: Those seasonal homes
