Received this government news release about a local "contractor": Consumers in northern Alberta are advised William Fudge may be operating as an unlicensed contractor despite charges against him. The Alberta government recently received information about three new potential victims in the Peace River area. Fudge has previously operated as Get Ur Done Renovations & Maintenance, but may be using a different business name. “Our government has strict rules for contractors who solicit work at your home and take money upfront. Through our plan to protect Alberta homeowners, we have put new administrative penalties in place, raised the maximum court fine and are conducting undercover sting operations to help protect Albertans from unlicensed prepaid contractors.” - Manmeet S. Bhullar, Minister of Service Alberta Fudge is not licensed as a prepaid contractor. In 2012, he allegedly took two payments totaling $7,650 as a deposit on home renovation work for a homeowner in Grimshaw. No work was ever done and the money was not refunded. Service Alberta charged Fudge on August 27, 2013 with three counts under the Criminal Code: Using a false pretense with intent to defraud a person of over $5,000; Using a false pretense with intent to defraud a person of under $5,000; and Theft over $5,000. Fudge is also charged with operating as an unlicensed prepaid contractor, using a contract that does not comply with legislated requirements, and failing to refund a consumer under the Fair Trading Act, Alberta’s consumer protection law. He is scheduled for a first appearance in Peace River provincial court on October 28.
