Recently in Bio 208 we have been discussing Ecology, Ecosystems, Biomes and Tree Identification. Ecology is a broad, integrated discipline of study that involves the relationships of organisms to each other and to their environment. Ecosystems are communities/populations/organisms and their physical environments which interact and are interconnected by physical, chemical and biological processes. Biomes are terrestrial biotic communities considered on a global or at least on a continental scale. Some of the biomes we studied were Taiga, Tundra, Tropical Rain-forests, Temperate Deciduous Forest and a few more. Tree Identification is mostly done by leaf shape and structure. We have just gotten started on this and will hopefully know a lot more soon.
