Recently told how the Jacksonvilles Mayors office directly influenced the school board to act to erase the Forrest High name. Jacksonville was once a city with a long and proud military heritage. Not sure when it took a left turn; the military pride cant be found; and there appear to be snakes everywhere. The issue of the Forrest High name change is still in the news for a few reasons.... 1. It was racial hypersensitivity that motivated the name change; 2. Promises that it would be done with donations were hollow (3 months after vote only 2 percent donated); 3. Tax dollars are to fund for name change (tax payers education funds wasted); 4. No response what ever from school board to give tribute to the 55 year history of Forrest High; 5. Appears pressure for the name change came from both activists and the Mayors office (assuming there is a difference). Despite efforts by the school board and media to ignore Forrest High Alumni, this topic is not going to go away........ Forrest High Alumni are going to make their presence a part of Jacksonville for decades..... I had hoped that Jacksonville wouldnt use Chicago or Detroit as blue prints of what to become when it grows up. Appears the Mayors office didnt get that memo.
