Refeed (cheat) meals and leptin regulation: Leptin is an important hormone our body uses to regulate hunger, food intake and energy expenditure. When leptin is low, then cravings and hunger go up and metabolism slows. When one is in a calorie deficit for awhile, their metabolism begins to slow and adapt to the lower calorie intake. To raise ones leptin back up which can boost boost metabolism, decrease hunger and maintain sanity, you can have a cheat (refeed) meal; which is best by raising carbohydrates for a meal. I recommend you do this once a week. The type and quantity of the refeed can depend on body fat, how long one has been dieting and the intensity of the deficit. There is more to it, however this is a short explanation of why and how refeed/cheat meals can be beneficial. Hope this helps. :D
